How It Works

The APTIS DRUJ prosthesis is an enclosed joint that allows the patient to experience a renewed range of motion at the level of the wrist. Once implanted, the patient is able to use their hand for turning and, most importantly, for lifting.

The DRUJ allows rotation of the Radius around the Ulna.

This allows you to turn your hand palm up or down (supination/pronation).

The DRUJ provides support for the Radius from the Ulna when lifting.

The ulna acts as a lever in the forearm and a hinge in the elbow that allows you to bend your arm.
The radius supports the hand and wrist but must rely on the ulna for support when lifting in a curling, bending, or even in a straight position.
